Mamoru Hosoda’s (the director of acclaimed features including Wolf Children and Mirai) new feature Belle, announced last December, has released its official trailer along with alluring details about the production. Something unusual about this Japanese animated feature’s creative team makeup is that it is quite international! Irish animation studio, Cartoon Saloon and Disney veteran character designer Jin Kim (designer of the title character Belle), London based artist Eric Wong (environment designer), and a handful of others are part of this delightful abnormality and have helped bring this film to life. What is the story of Belle about? It follows along 17-year-old girl named Suzu, who loses her ability to sing after her mother’s death. Discovering U, an online universe, she explores it through her avatar Belle, a singer who becomes a rising star in the world.
