5 Oscar Qualified Films that You Probably Don’t Know About!

Check out some of the unexpected films nominated for this years Oscars celebration!

While the same handful of studios dominate the nominations of the Oscars each year, unique and diverse films are still in the running and they’re just as important. The Wrap has published this year’s list, which includes 27 features!

“The Nose or the Conspiracy” of Mavericks is an animated film directed by 81-year-old veteran of animation, Andrey Khrzhanovsky, it is inspired by Russia’s early 20th century. Across the world in Japan, “Ride Your Wave” directed by Masaaki Yuasa, is a film with the theme of a tragic yet comedic late-teen romance that dips into the world of fantasy. Directors Junichi Sato and Tomotaka Shibayama have created a film that follows a whimsical Japanese tale of young love, this time unrequited with “A Whisker Away”.  Our fourth film, “Accidental Luxuriance of the Translucent Watery Rebus”- directed by Dalibor Barić, can be described as a “hallucinatory cocktail of philosophical musings” according to cartoonbrew and it is quite the obscure watch. “Calamity” by Rémi Chayé is a strong film to consider watching! It has done incredibly well so far, even it winning the top feature prize at Annecy!
